Creating Dynamic Jump Actions in Present Pro

Dynamic jump actions are assets (buttons, images, text boxes, and so on) that have been assigned a user-defined "click action," which is triggered when it is clicked at runtime. These click actions can be used to open another slide in the presentation, to open a different content item, open a URL, and more.

Like Actions in Present and Discover, Jump Actions offer a way to incorporate Guided Actions into the end-user experience. Unlike Actions, they typically run "on click" and not from the right-click Actions menu.

Dynamic jump actions are a convenient and effective means of extending the classic flow of analytics to direct users through extra functionality in the dashboard that is triggered based on the user's interactions.

Configure Dynamic jump actions

To set up dynamic jump actions:

  1. Add a text box, image, shape, or Illustrate infographic to the slide.
  2. When you run the presentation, this will be the "button" that you will click to jump to the target slide, jump to a content item, and so on.

  3. Right-click the asset and select Click Action from the context menu.
  4. Configure the jump action in the Jump Actions panel at the bottom of the page.

Jump Actions panel

Configure the click action in the Jump Actions panel:

Start by selecting an action from the list in the Choose Action Type tab.

The following click action types are available:

  • Jump to Slide: Jump to a slide in the current presentation.
  • Jump to Content Item: Jump to a content item in Content Manager.
  • Jump to Tab: Jump to a given tab in a specified mini-tab layout container.
  • Jump to URL: When the specified report element is selected, use the dynamic PQL functions to produce a URL and jump to that URL.
  • Execute JavaScript: When the specified report element is selected, run a custom JavaScript function.
  • Publication Print: Choose a publication to be printed.
  • Subscribe: Open the subscription dialog when the asset is clicked.
  • Print: Open the print and export dialog when the asset is clicked.
  • Bookmark: Open a list of saved bookmarks when the asset is clicked.

Depending on your chosen click action, you may need to configure additional settings in the second tab. When you've configured all the relevant settings for your action, click Apply and close the panel.

Save the changes to your presentation, before launching it at runtime to test your new click action.
